No Comments on [LEARN] MCSA, MCSD, MCSE certifications retire on June 30th

So many changes in the learning program of Microsoft. But actually everything leads towards modern role-based certifications. With that Microsoft announced that MCSA, MCSD and MCSE certifications retire on June 30th 2020.

Which certifications retire?!

As Microsoft announced this week, the following certifications with exams are scheduled to retire on June 30th, 2020

  • MCSA: BI Reporting
  • MCSA: Dynamics 365 for Operations
  • MCSA: SQL 2016 BI Development
  • MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Admin
  • MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Dev
  • MCSA: SQL Server 2012/2014
  • MCSA: Universal Windows Platform
  • MCSA: Web Applications
  • MCSA: Windows Server 2012
  • MCSA: Windows Server 2016
  • MCSD: App Builder
  • MCSE: Business Applications
  • MCSE: Core Infrastructure
  • MCSE: Data Management & Analytics
  • MCSE: Productivity

With that, also all the related exams are retiring.

Will there be new Windows Server and SQL Server certifications?!

The answer is pretty easy: NO

As mentioned in the FAQ section of the original annoucement, there will be no Server or SQL certifications in the future. Microsoft will focus to include the content into the role-based certifications as needed and where suitable.

In my honest opinion, this is a good decision. The old Windows Server certifications have not seen much updates over the last years. And also the impact and focus of Microsoft business is coming from the Cloud.

I know we still have topics like Azure Stack HCI and a lot of customers running Windows Servers .. but I do not expect to see crazy inventions here … so an up-to-date certification does not mean much here…

What now?!

If you have achieved the certification already or you are able to achieve it before June 30th, it will show in your transcript as active for additional 2 years. After this it will be moved to the inactive section.

No matter when, you should care about updating your certifications to the new role-based certifications.

I think there will be some new certifications and exams coming out over the next months.

One thing that was announced already are upcoming certifications for Azure Database Administrators and Data Analyst Associate. They will kind of replace the old SQL MCSA certifications:
